We joyfully welcome you and your child as you begin preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion (FHC). This is a special time in your child's faith journey and a wonderful opportunity for your entire family to grow closer to Christ and His Church. Thank you for taking this step in fulfillment of the promise you made at your child's Baptism. As the Church reminds us, "You are the first and most important teachers of your child in the ways of faith." We are honored to partner with you in this journey.
We know that every family comes to us from a different place in their faith journey. Some may feel confident, while others feel like they're starting fresh--and that's perfectly okay. Our hope is that this preparation becomes more than a requirement. We pray these gatherings help your family grow closer to Christ and discover a true home in the Church and within our St. Cornelius Parish community.

Sacramental Preparation
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles requires two full years of sacramental preparation (sac prep) for BOTH child and parent before the reception of First Holy Communion. Parent participation, family activities, and parish celebrations are important parts of this process, helping families grow together in faith and deepen their understanding of the sacraments. Please note, all sacramental preparation is separate from the religion curriculum taught at St. Cornelius School and other Catholic Schools.
At St. Cornelius, this preparation takes place through our Pathways Program, designed to support both children and parents while accommodating busy family schedules.
